The basic layout of process monitoring elements

On-line (in-process) monitoring
• Parallel to the ongoing process (software or hardware-based)

DTA (digital drive data via profibus)
Torque and feed force
• Sufficient for approx. 80% of monitoring cases (breakage, missing parts,
  worn tools)

Acoustic emission
• Used for small tools and collision monitoring
• Used especially with multi-spindle operation

Spindle/collision monitoring
• Sensor system provides data on spindle vibrations and crashes

Measurements directly on tool holder
• Direct recording (DMS) near to point of action (wireless sensor system)
• Influences from the machine do not influence the results
